A Visit to Historic Milwaukee Area
The annual senior citizen bus trip is planned for May 19, 2010. Today it’s still frigid wintertime but picture a day filled with beautiful warm sunshine, the kind of day we had last year, as we enjoy a trip that will take us to:
The Basilica of St. Josaphat (Milwaukee): Patterned after St. Peter’s in Rome, the church was dedicated on July 21, 1901. In 1929 Pope Pius XI elevated it to a minor basilica. (To achieve this status, a church must be recognized as a place of pilgrimage and special devotion, a center of historic significance for the Faith and it is artistically and architecturally qualified.) It is the third church in the USA to be named a minor Basilica. It is also a Franciscan center for prayer and spirituality as well as a recognized landmark.
Mader’s German Restaurant for a buffet luncheon.
Time to shop at:
Usinger’s Sausage Shop and
Old World Third Street
Cheese Shop, where all will have the opportunity to purchase
famous sausage, meats and cheese. Quality Candy/Buddy Squirrel
Factory Quality Candy creates all its own centers from scratch
before covering them with Swiss-style milk and dark chocolate. We
will take a tour of the production facility, which will include the
popping and roasting rooms for their nut and popcorn operation.
Fred Hermes Basement Bijou (Racine):
Along with ornate columns, chandeliers and detailed walls,
there is 2,500 pipe Wurlitzer organ from 1926. It is the largest of
five manual organs that the Wulitzer company ever made. The tour
will include viewing an old-time silent movie.
We will depart from St. Joe’s at 7:30am and return around 7:00pm.
We will travel on a
Lamers Deluxe Motor Coach, which is air
conditioned and equipped with a DVD player and restroom. To book
this trip, we need to have 40 people registered by April 5th. This
will be a day filled with fun, exceptional food and great company.
There are 53 seats available on this trip. Spread the word among
friends and family about this opportunity.
Watch the brown envelopes at St. Joe’s and church
bulletins for registration forms. Or see CF Dedman at the parish
office.
