ACES XAVIER SCRIP PROGRAM
What is Scrip?
Scrip is a gift card resale program in which ACES XAVIER
families & friends can participate. The gift cards are worth exactly what
you pay for them. Scrip sales must be paid in cash or cash equivalent. We
cannot accept a charge card for payment of Scrip. As a protective measure
for the scrip program, any scrip purchases exceeding $5,000 must be paid in
the form of a bank cashiers/certified check. This ensures that the funds
being received are collectable funds.
How is revenue generated from Scrip?
ACES XAVIER purchases Scrip at a discounted amount. That
percentage of discount varies from vendor to vendor and is indicated for
each on the order form. Because ACES XAVIER purchases Scrip at a discounted
amount but sells it at its full value, every dollar of Scrip that you
purchase generates revenue. That revenue is split 50/50. Half of it is
posted as a payment on your account to offset the cost of tuition and fees
and half is designated to ACES XAVIER for operational support. Last year,
ACES XAVIER families earned about $217,000 from the Scrip program. This
revenue is used to lower tuition either directly in the form of scholarships
or indirectly by decreasing the need for tuition to cover the full costs of
staff, textbooks, postage, etc.
When and where can Scrip be bought?
Scrip is available at Catholic Central, St. Pius X, St.
Thomas More, St. Bernadette, and Xavier High School campuses during school
hours and at the St. Joseph Middle School office from 7:30-4:00. Special
schedules will be announced for holidays and summer. Purchases made between
April 24, 2006 and March 31, 2007 will be applied to tuition and fees for
the 2006/2007 school year. Purchases after that period will be applied to
the following year. Credit balances are carried over to the following year
if there is a registered student in the family. If there are no students
enrolled in the subsequent school year, credit balances will be considered
donations to the ACES XAVIER system.
Which vendors participate in the ACES
XAVIER Scrip Program?
The list of vendors changes periodically but a current
list and order form can always be found on the ACES XAVIER website
http://www.acesys.org
under System Forms. The same document is also available at all Scrip sales
locations.
What is the Scrip Hot Line? (735-6767)
Scrip Hot Line is a 24-hour answering service at the ACES
XAVIER administrative office. You can use it to phone in your orders. The
orders are filled daily, and sent to your designated campus within three
business days. Some special orders could take up to one week.
Can I be sure all the Scrip I want
will be available when I want it?
Yes, if you plan ahead. All the campuses will try to
stock a reasonable amount of the most commonly used retailers. However, it
is not possible to anticipate when everyone will come in and how much you
will want to purchase. Here are a few simple suggestions: Anytime you need a
large amount from any retailer, (more than five cards of the same
denomination for any vendor) please use the hot line (735-6767). If
you are making a credit card payment with your Scrip purchase, order the
Scrip when you receive the credit card bill. Request pickup at your campus a
week before it is due. It will be in an envelope waiting for you.
What kind of credit card payments can
I make with Scrip purchases?
At the time of this notice, there are three vendors that
accept their own Scrip as payment toward the balance of the store credit
card: Kohls, JCPenney, and American TV Appliance & Furniture.
What if I don’t have a child in the ACES XAVIER system?
Any individual can purchase Scrip and designate a
particular family account to credit. The IRS ruling states, "If parents,
grandparents and other individuals purchase Scrip directly from the
sponsoring organization for their own use, and then allocate a portion of
the profits to a student’s school tuition account and/or Scrip requirement
there are NO tax consequences." Relatives, neighbors and friends
should be informed of this opportunity and be encouraged to participate. If
you feel there may be gift tax consequences in your particular situation,
please consult your tax advisor.
Alternatively, 100% of your Scrip credits can be
designated to benefit ACES XAVIER operations. Order forms that do not
include a family designation will be applied in full to the system
operations.
Can families of Pre-Kindergarten
students purchase Scrip and receive credit?
Yes. You are not mandated to fulfill a fund raising goal
but any Scrip credits will reduce your tuition due.
If I have any questions, whom should I
call?
If you have any questions, call the ACES XAVIER
Administrative Services office and ask for Maria (735-9380).
EXAMPLE OF THE ACES XAVIER SCRIP
PROGRAM
JOE & SUE JONES FAMILY BUYS PAPA
MURPHY’S SCRIP
PAPA MURPHY’S DISCOUNT = 10%
When Mr. & Mrs. Jones buy Papa Murphy’s Scrip, 5% will be
credited to the Jones family to offset the cost of tuition and fees. At the
same time, 5% will be allocated to the system to support the cost of
operating the system schools.
If Mr. Jones buys $20 of Papa Murphy’s Scrip for a family
pizza meal, the credit is split as follows:
5% to the family = $1.00
5% to the system = $1.00
These little credits all add up and both the family and
the system receive benefit from a purchase that would have been made anyway.
Reminder
Families of elementary and middle school students have a
fund raising fee of $100 per student with a cap of $200 per family. High
School students have a fund raising fee of $150 per student. The fund
raising fee will be billed on each student’s tuition and fee statement at
the start of the school year.
Fund raising credits will be posted to accounts on a
monthly basis. The fund raising fee can be paid off with a cash payment or
through the generation of credit via programs like Scrip. Not all fund
raising activities are eligible for fund raising credit – please be sure to
check the details of the program prior to making an assumption about the
applicability of your purchase to your account balance.
